Failure of Missionary Mark
From Paphos, Paul and his
companions sailed to Perga in
Pamphylia, where John left them to
return to Jerusalem. Acts 13:13
Mark was appeared to have all
qualities to be a best assistant
of great nurturer Barnabas and
great missionary Paul.
But Mark returned from
the 1st Paul’s Missionary Journey
from south Turkey presently
which is not far from Syria
Antioch where they were sent from.
He was about middle 30th.
Although we do not know exactly
the reasons but there could be many;
such as adjusting to the burdens of
gentile culture, accepting the
country with miscellaneous gods,
severe spiritual warfares and
much stresses etc.
However he was not able to
take the ministry finally.
Barnabas and Paul must have had
harder time due to Mark’s untimely
return with astonishment and loss
as well as jobs he left.
Instead of returning the Antioch
Church he returned Jerusalem.
He must have been suffering with
desperation, guilty and confusion.
His family and church also the same.
Mark saw Jesus during his life and
after his resurrection and was filled
with the Holy Spirit on the Pentecost
at his house.
However he was yet spiritually
young to have severe spiritual
battles to take people out of enemy
devil’s hands as a combat soldier.
He needed to grow spiritually and
training using his good personal
qualities and privileged experiences
in order to fight as a victorious
combat in a front line spiritual
battle field.
May is called queen of season,
month of love.
In May are children’s day whom Jesus loved
especially, parents day, couple’s day, family day,
missing children’s day and labor day in Korea.
All these are for people.
The love of God who admires people so much
that he blesses all of them with natural blessings
and he so desires them to love each other,
be happy and prosperous.
God’s love is like blowing the silky May wind.
Love gives us joy, strength and awakens all
my dream and potential. God loves me so.
What is love?
