Not to be conceited
To keep me from becoming conceited
because of these surpassingly
great revelations, there was given me
a thorn in my flesh,
a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
2 Corinthians 12:7
Even God's people can be
abandoned by conceit.
Conceit pushes God away from
the center of one's heart
and one acts as if one is God.
God prevented from the conceit of
Apostle Paul through whom
he blessed the menkind the second
most.
Yet he knows the weaknesses of
men who can be tempted by devil
as long as they are in the bodies.
To prevent this God allowed a little
that God's enemy devil, Satan
could attack Apostle Paul so that
he can be alert and strong to finish
his task.
But that attack was tormenting him.
And that made him totally depend on
God until the end of his life.
When God's faithful workers suffer
greatly unreasonably, this reality
can be one of the reasons.
The 2 Corinthians is the Apostle Paul's second letter to the
Corinthian Churches. Letter is the most intimate and personal.
Two thousand years ago, the Corinth city in Greece reminds
us today's New York city. The Corinth seaboard city was
then a center of trade, merchandize, wealth and luxury.
Also there was the Venus temple which led people not only
to moral deterioration but also sexual disaster.
The original location of Humanism, which against Creator God
and focus on human, the Corinth city in Greece lay in
spiritually formless, empty and darkness.
Here by God's mercy small lights began to shine. They were the
Lord Jesus' house Churches. They belong to the low social class.
Envious and jealous devil attempted to destroy God's
House Churches by questioning Paul's integrity and Apostleship.
And it caused to delay and complicate the promised loving
collection as well for the poverty stricken Jerusalem church.
It was the process of the life giving Gospel to us, and it
continues so. How beautiful are the feet those who
bring good news !
