Opened our hearts
We have spoken freely to you,
Corinthians, and opened wide
our hearts to you.
We are not withholding our affection
from you, but you are withholding
yours from us. 2 Corinthians 6:11,12
This Apostle Paul's second letter was
to the Corinthian Church which was
in the city of most prosperous
commerce with Aphrodite temple
in the home of humanism Greece.
These relatively low social class
young Christians became Christians
by believing Jesus and forgiven
their sins in deep secular world.
But they were confused with their
old way of value system and
life styles such as sexual life
with step mother in the process of
growing according to the character
of Jesus as holy children by
separating from those of the world.
Paul who first introduced Jesus to
them urged with and taught
"if anyone is in Christ he is a new
creation the old has gone
the new has come."
They closed their hearts because
Paul did not love them
they concluded.
It is like a loving and wise mother
pleading with her wilful son not
to hurt himself
"my heart is wide open to you and
love you, open your heart."
All the reasons for this is their
loved ones benefits.
This is Jesus disciple making.
The 2 Corinthians is the Apostle Paul's second letter to the
Corinthian Churches. Letter is the most intimate and personal.
Two thousand years ago, the Corinth city in Greece reminds
us today's New York city. The Corinth seaboard city was
then a center of trade, merchandize, wealth and luxury.
Also there was the Venus temple which led people not only
to moral deterioration but also sexual disaster.
The original location of Humanism, which against Creator God
and focus on human, the Corinth city in Greece lay in
spiritually formless, empty and darkness.
Here by God's mercy small lights began to shine. They were the
Lord Jesus' house Churches. They belong to the low social class.
Envious and jealous devil attempted to destroy God's
House Churches by questioning Paul's integrity and Apostleship.
And it caused to delay and complicate the promised loving
collection as well for the poverty stricken Jerusalem church.
It was the process of the life giving Gospel to us, and it
continues so. How beautiful are the feet those who
bring good news !
