​               Predecessors of our Faith

16.

Instead, they were longing for

a better country-- a heavenly one.

Therefore God is not ashamed to be

called their God,

for he has prepared a city for them.

The descendants of Abraham with

God's promise of their own country

longed for not only the earthly country

for a millenium but a heavenly one.

For this the God of a heavenly kingdom

pleased with them to be their God.

So he prepared a city for them

here on earth and in heaven eternally.
